2 Killed in an Armed Attack in Hajja [Archives:2000/04/Front Page]

Mr. Abdul kader Al-Aswadi, Aflah district director was killed last Thursday by some Islamic Groups the very time he reached the district to carry out the governor’s orders which necessitate the closure of the Institute opened near a public school. Sources told Yemen Times that the firing resulted in the killing of the district director, injuring the security director and killing another person from Ghazi Tribe who was at the spot. All this has mounted tensions between the security forces in the governorate and the group plotted the attack. Fingers are pointed at some figures belonging to Islah Party. The dead body was still kept in the hospital after some attempts were made to bury the body and cover the implications of the case, after the vice Interior Minister gave orders preventing its burial.
Many social dignitaries assembled Sunday including Sultan Al-Barakani, member of Parliament to discuss the case, however results of this gathering were not known yet. Informed sources in Hajjah told Yemen Times that security forces were able to arrest 12 convicted people in the killing. However, this news were not confirmed by the official sources. This is done after a solidarity campaign was leashed two days ago included all districts directors to have a one firm stand in regard to the case.
