253 mines cleared in Beidha Yemen is tops in clearing mines [Archives:2002/16/Front Page]

BEIDHA — Yemen continues to clear mines and maintain its position as a world-leader in this field.
After a recent mine-clearing campaign, Mansur al-Ezzi, the executive director of the program and chairman of the International Committee for Technology in Geneva, Switzerland, pointed out Yemen ranked first out of 100 countries and organizations in clearing mines and missiles.
Yemens Mines Clearance Committee successfully denoted 253 missiles in the Mukairas area last week.
The chairman of the Mines Clearance Committee, Muhssen al-Yousfi, Yahia Mohammed al-Shami, governor of Beidha, Bert J. Ronhor, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Sana’a as well as a number of government officials in the governorate attended the event.
Muhssen al-Yusifi said the activities of the current campaign came within the framework of the National Demining Program funded by donor countries topped by Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands and the United States.
Yahia Mohammed al-Shami, governor of Beidha met HE Bert J. Ronhert, Ambassador of the Netherlands at his office in Beidha. Mr. Bert pointed out that the local community should be involved in making the studies and supervising the development assistance channeled by the Government of the Netherlands to the government.
Dutch Ambassador along with the governor of Beidha toured the Thura Hospital of Beidha as well as other infrastructure projects in the capital of the government.
