55th anniversary of Indias Independence Day, marked [Archives:2002/34/Local News]

The Indian community celebrated Thursday the 55th anniversary of Indias Independence Day at the Indian Embassy in Sanaa.
As a token of liberation and victory, the Indian flag was hoisted by the HE Shri M.S. Suman, the Ambassador of India to Yemen. It was followed by the Indian national anthem performed by students of the Indian School in Sanaa.
Then the Indian president A.P.J Abdulkalam speech was read out by the Indian Ambassador to Yemen, Shri M.S. Suman. The speech highlighted vital aspects of intensive struggles, great sacrifices and dedicated efforts for the sake of independence and freedom.
After its independence, India has made significant achievements in agriculture, food production, energy, health care and in various fields of science and technology.
At the international level, India has been progressing by leaps and bounds in the field of nuclear science and defense, space, mass media and communication, information technology and pharmaceuticals.
Different activities were presented during the celebration of the Independence Day such as, marches, dances, and songs as an expression of happiness and joy.
