The Human Rights, Liberties and NGOs Committee of the Consultative Council has embarked on a major initiative regarding human rights in Yemen. The first step has been to invite the ambassadors in Sanaa representing democratic countries to share their thoughts on the subject with committee. Several ambassadors were received by committee members and discussed their assessments of human rights conditions in Yemen, perceived cases/issues of concern, and possible remedial action. In the next step, the committee will invite representatives of international organizations, journalists, human rights watchgroups, and others to speak to the committee about their views. Eventually, working with a team of local human rights activists and the relevant state organizations, the committee hopes to develop a policy paper in human rights for the country.
