E.R. & W.S.C. Students Appeal to President [Archives:1999/50/Local News]
In a letter to President Saleh, students of the Empirical Research and Women Studies Center urged him to turn down the decision to cancel the center and establish a new center called Woman Studies Center. They stated that they all-out reject this center for a number of reasons including that the decision to close the center paid no attention to more than a hundred students studying in the center who are preparing for higher studies. More than 150 students are affected by its closure for they won’t be able to finish their studies. The closure of the center was not made after the curricula and center activities were evaluated by an academic committee. Rather, it was done after a strong aggressive campaign against the center and those working in it was conducted. The committee assigned to investigate the matter did not meet any of the concerned, neither did it meet the students who could say how things are at the center.
