European Union Clears Trade Access Package for 48 Countries including Yemen [Archives:2001/10/Local News]

The European Union Trade Minister cleared a package of measures to give the world’s 48 poorest countries free access to EU markets for all products except arms by the year 2009. The so-called Everything But Arms intuitive was approved after the Commission agreed to phase in access for the three most sensitive products, sugar, rice and bananas. There will be monitoring to variety respect for rules of origin, and to prevent fraud.
“This is good news for Yemen and I am looking forward to the further development to Yemen’s non-traditional export sector,” concluded, Rainer Schierhorst, Head of the European Commission technical Advisory Office in Yemen.
