The Refugee Community Center of the Partners for Development (PAD) NGO will be hosting its annual Bazaar during 13-14 September. The bazaar is expected to have more than 1,000 people attending from the local Yemeni, expatriate and refugee communities. A children’s corner has been created and will offer games and traditional storytelling. There will be handicrafts for sale, henna painting, hair braiding, and an art exhibit showcasing talented artists within the Sanaa refugee community. Traditional food from the Horn of Africa will be available throughout the two-day festivity. The bazaar will also include popular evening performances from the Somali Fan band and the Ethiopian Cultural Dress and Dance show with new acts such as the Ethiopian Children’s Choir and the famous Sudanese singer, Osama.
Cindy Issac, the Program Coordinator of PAD told Yemen Times that “The bazaar’s goal is to provide an opportunity for refugees in Sanaa to earn supplemental income by selling their handicrafts and other goods. It will also provide information about the very diverse refugee community living in Yemen.”
It is worth mentioning that PAD has been quite active in organizing activities and events that serve the refugee community and introduce their customs and traditions to the Yemeni public. PAD’s last bazaar hosted in November 2000 and attended by well over 1,000 people, was heralded as an enormous success. PAD is expecting yet more success for this year’s bazaar.
