June 3 2002

Last Wednesday, two kidnappers were handed over by the Aal al-Zaidi tribe to the Ministry of Interior. This is the first time tribesmen have forced members to surrender themselves to the government.
Hassan Ahmad al-Zaidi and Mohammed Nasser al-Zaidi were both tried and sentenced to 20-years of imprisonment for the kidnapping of Carl Linart.
Carl Linart was abducted last September and held in captivity for 15 days before he was released by military action. Linart a German citizen is an engineer with the Mercedes Benz Company.
The tribe was promised compensation for losses suffered during the Mechanized 25 Brigades bombing, a maneuver engaged last year to hunt down the kidnappers.
Ali Ahmad Nasser al-Zaidi, the mastermind of the kidnapping was arrested immediately after the recovery of the hostage and was sentenced to death.
