Accusations fly between Islah and PGC [Archives:2002/23/Local News]
Two weeks ago, Saeed Salem Mosa resident of al-Hodeidah was reported to have been beaten and harassed by men sent by Shuaib al-Fasheq, a member of the Peoples General Congress, Yemens ruling party.
Mosa is a member of Yemens Congregation for Reform (Islah), the official opposition. Mosa was taken to al-Fasheqs house where his beard and mustache were torn out and shaved and his legs chained.
PGC member of parliament Shuaib al-Fasheq sent 5 armed men to abduct Mosa as he left the Bait al-Faqih Mosque, said a statement given by Islah on May 27.
Islah went on to say that al-Fasheq has been harassing members of their party in an attempt to force them to abandon their political affiliation. A demand was made for the lifting of al-Fasheqs parliamentary immunity.
In response, the PGC has accused the Islah party of an attempt to take the life of General Anwar Ali Hussein, PGC member and chairman of the local council in al-Maadher.
