Aden Security Chief Threatens Al-Ayyam Newspaper [Archives:2000/07/Local News]
Al-Ayyam newspaper reported that the Aden Chief of Security, Brigadier General Mohammed Saleh Turik for the second time threatened its two publishers Hisham and Tamam Basharahil, to deal a blow to their interests if they did not stop publishing things that are upsetting to him.
Brigadier General Turik had threatened the paper to expropriate land of “Dar Al-Ayyam” project, last Ramadhan, using indecent language against them. The second time, he threatened them through the phone accusing the newspaper of treason and of being separatist. He also threatened that those working in the newspaper have to be on the alert for any expected fire or attack.
The General is said have become indignant at a news item reported by Al-Ayyam newspaper in its issue No. 689 regarding the destruction of a Jewish temple in Aden by the security forces.
Al-Ayyam newspaper holds the government responsible for the lives of the newspaper employees and their families as well as its properties.
