The parliament endorsed last Wednesday the law of the local authority after it was voted for by the majority members of the ruling party, despite the outrageous constitutional violations it contains. Parliamentary sources told Yemen Times that voting was associated with so many doctoring numbers of the attendants and ended up by doctoring voters for the law.
The Parliament Presidium strongly condemned the action of making the names of the late Hilal Haidar Al-Afif, member of parliament died a week ago, Abdul Rahman Al-Akwa’a, minister of the Media absent from the session and that of Saleh Al-Gonaid, governor of Al-Dala’a not allowed to vote for he constitutes an executive side appear in the screen.
At another level, some MPs threatens to resort to the Supreme Constitutional Court to call out the articles of this law. They have submitted a letter to the president in this regard calling him to re-consider the law which violates constitutional articles, especially articles number 143 and 144. It is reported that many amendments have been conducted on this law by the Parliament Presidium without allowing the members to learn about them prior to the decision of endorsement. The law states that districts’ directors and governors are to be appointed and not elected.
