Al-Kawthar Shiite Center Attacked [Archives:2001/20/Local News]

May 14 2001

A grenade was thrown at the Al-Kawthar Shiite Center in Sana’a followed by gun fire at the center’s windows, a release by the Shiite Center said on Friday. They added that the Imam of Al-Gos Mosque, Ahmad Al-Haylamah, gave them a 30-hour ultimatum to close down. Some of the Imam’s friends had previously collected a number of people’s signatures demanding closure of the center. The release holds the government responsible for any further attacks in the future.
Unlike many Islamic institutes and centers, the Al-Kawthar Center also organizes computer and English courses for students.
