Brigadier Naji al-Sufi told the Yemen Times his removal from his post as governor of Mareb was a result of a disagreement with the government on development projects the city needed.
He said the decision had nothing to do with the alleged failure in combating terrorists in the city.
I enjoy good relations with Marebs tribes despite the mistakes some military leaders and tribesmen commit which have created some problems, he said.
Tribesmen are cooperative once you deal with them peacefully.
He said he stopped working for a while to express his disagreement with depriving the city of a lot of development projects. “There should be a lot of development projects in order to achieve security. Intensifying the military existence is not the solution to security problems, he said.
President Ali Abdullah Saleh ordered on May 26 the removal of Brigadier al-Sufi from his post as governor of Mareb.
This is the third time an official is removed from office by a republican decree. In the 1980sorders were given for Mohammed Qaid Fuad, the then minister of Supply and Trade and Ahmad Qaid Barakat, Minister of Industry and Economy, to leave their offices.
