The South-West Capital Secretariat court summoned in its yesterday morning session Mr. Sameer Al-Yosufi, chief editor of Al-Thaqafiah newspaper to report to it within two days, otherwise his attorney Abdul Aziz Al-Baghdadi will be detained. The court banned newspapers from publishing any information about the sessions.
In this context, advocate Al-Baghdadi described the court’s decision to prevent him from defending his client in absentia and banning publication of news about trial as unconstitutional.
On the other hand, the suspect’s attorney came under attack by a number of Islamists as a sign of threat.
The session was attended by chairman of the YJS, Mahboub Ali, Abdul Bari Taher, Hassan Abdul Wareth and others.
The YJS has released a statement condemning what it described as an unjustifiable mounting campaign against Al-Thaqafiah and its chief editor.
The syndicate expressed its unbounded solidarity with the paper and its chief editor and urged syndicates, unions and civil society organizations for a move of solidarity with Mr. Al-Yosufi and Al-Thaqafiah.
It also urged them to take part in the solidarity meeting held today morning at the syndicate’s office.
