As scheduled, the President Starts the Seminar on Strengthening the Role of Women in Elections [Archives:1999/35/Front Page]

The organizers of the seminar on increasing the role of Yemeni women in the presidential elections and elections in general, were worried that the President would postpone or cancel his participation because of the huge “City Center” explosion. However, the President held his promise, and as scheduled, inaugurated the seminar which was organized by the Women ‘s National Committee and the Fridrich Ebert Foundation on Saturday. 
Taking the blast into consideration, the president looked confident and unyielding while giving his speech in which he defended the rights of women and stressed on the importance of involving women not only as voters, but also as candidates in future elections. During the seminar, statements by the organizing committee’s chairman, Amat Al-Aleem Al-Susuwa and by the Acting Ambassador of Germany to Yemen were made. 
Several participants submitted their papers and discussed the conditions of Yemeni women and the role of women in the ongoing democratic process.
