Authorities arrest al-Qaeda sympathizer [Archives:2002/17/Local News]
Yemeni authorities detained last Tuesday Ali Mubarak Firas in Mareb for his alleged links to al-Qaeda. He was subsequently transported to Sanaa for interrogation, despite his tribes pressures to get him released.
The whereabouts of Abu Ali al-Harethi and Abu Asam al-Ahdal, two of the most wanted al-Qaeda elements in Yemen, are still unknown. While the first has been reportedly fled the country to a neighboring state, al-Ahdal is said to be inside Yemen and is in a close contact with al-Qaeda sympathizers in Yemen.
