Back to school [Archives:2004/771/Community]

Approximately one and a half million students all over the Republic, in both primary and secondary education, will have restarted their school term on Saturday, 4/9/2004, following the end of the summer holidays, and as announced, the Ministry of Education has provided the schoolbooks. This year sees the introduction by the ministry of an ambitious plan, which involves the restructuring of the ministry itself. The main objectives are to retrain and qualify 40 thousand teachers, both male and female, throughout the whole Republic, over the course of a four-year training program, for which purpose there has been allocated a budget of $100m. In addition to this, the Ministry intends to set up educational establishments in more deprived areas.
