In his remarkable visit to Yemen recently, renowned Yemeni and Arab singer Abu Bakr Salem Balfaqeeh was honored at all levels by government and public. However, one can say that the most emotional time for Balfaqeeh on his entire visit was when he visited Aden, Hadramout, and specifically Tareem, where he found amazing surprises.
Emotional time in Tareem
Balfaqeeh was invited to Tareem where he was born and grew up before leaving to Aden. In Tareem, he caroled religious and emotional poems and songs while visiting the graveyard of his grandfathers and remembering the unforgettable past.
He seemed very emotional in remembering where he came from and how he lived in exile for so long and then returned to be honored again in his beloved home. Thousands of residents of Tareem came to welcome him during his historic visit.
Great surprises
Balfaqeeh was welcomed warmly by thousands of people from Hadramout and Aden. He received hospitality from the governors of Hadramut and Aden. In an unexpected pleasant surprise, Abu Bakr was honored by an Honorary Doctorate degree in Art and Literature by University of Hadramout. Surprises never ended, as the governor of Hadramout announced that the Governorate of Hadramaut's building of National Art Center would be named after Balfaqeeh.
Then the singer was shocked to hear that Prime Minister Bajammal issued a decree to print a national postage stamp bearing his picture in honor of his.
Just as Balfaqeeh thought that surprises ended, a presidential order was given by President Ali Abdullah Saleh to the Governor of Aden to grant him a large piece of land in Aden City to fulfill his dream of building an institute for music that teaches, documents, promotes, performs and conducts researches on Yemeni music. It will be under the supervision of Aden University.
