June 8 1998

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, and local and international NGOs, a number of Mareb citizens demanded the immediate payment of compensations allocated for the 1995/96 flash flood damages. A number of countries had two years ago provided a total of $35 million to help people affected by the floods in which 468 people, mostly women and children, died.
‘We have not received any of the aid provided then,’ claims the letter, adding, ‘we call on all international and local agencies to support us in this finding the fate of these aids.’
