The first person who had created a bibliography in Yemen was Judge Mohammed Bin Ahmad Al-Hujaray in 1361 A.H. Where he had authored an index for Al-Awqaf Library which is the eastern library now in Al-Jamae Al-Kabeer ( Grand Moaque) in Sana'a. Yet this index was not published and is still used solely in the library.
In 1984 the Ministry of Al-Awqaf printed a bibliography written by 3 scholars of four independent parts for the eastern library. The three scholars are: Ahmed Abdulrazzaq Al-Ruqahi, Abdullah Mohammed Al-Habashi and Ali Wahhab Al-Anisi, and the publication is called: “Library Scripts' Index of Al-Jamae Al-Kabeer in Sana'a, 1984”. This index describes 2409 books categorized into five sciences: religion, Arabic language, Philosophy, Applied Science and General Knowledge.
Structure of the Index:
There are a number of facts about each publication that must be present in the index and it is formatted in the following style:
– Name of book, author and part number (if more than one part)
– Beginning with: a section of the first lines in the book
– Ending with: a section of the last lines in the book
– Scripter or writer
– Handwriting style / script
– Date of finishing the document
– Number of pages
Bibliography of the western Library:
The document is called: “Western Library Scripts' Index of Al-Jamae Al-Kabeer in Sana'a, 1978”, and was compiled by Mohammed Saeed Al-Maleih and Ahmed Mohammed Isaway, both technical members of library management in Kuwait.
The index which is in one book, includes 1978 publication divided into 27 classification according to Al-Diwowi categorization such as: Quranic illustration, literature, Prophet wordings, History of prophet Mohammed (pbuh) and art of speaking, Religious legislation, Commandments, general knowledge tc.
Structure of the Index:
The facts about each publication that is present in the index and it is formatted in the following style:
– Name of book, and author
– Beginning with: a section of the first lines in the book
– Ending with: a section of the last lines in the book
– Handwriting style / script
– Date of finishing the document
– Number of pages and page size
Bibliography of Dar Al-Kutub Yemeni Publications:
This journal is called: “Index of the Yemeni Publications in Dar Al-Kutub until 1983” and is compiled by Abdulmalik Al-Maqhafi. The style of formatting the index contains the following information for each publication:
– Author name
– Book title
– The author's name again after the word written by;
– Publication house and year of publication
– Number of pages
– Book code in the library
Educational Bibliography lists:
This is a series produced by Authenticating and publication unit in the Educational development and research center and is called: “Bibliographic lists”.
It was complied by Mohammed Abdu Thabit Al-Aghbary, Samira Abdulqadir Mohammed, Manae Ali Manae and was review and supervised by Abdullah Ahmed Al-Thifani.
This publication includes education opinions in a number of cultural and heritage books as well as a number of recent educational publications and it was published in 1986.

– Contents
The largest bibliography project in Yemen is what the General Body for Books is creating. Previously this body has produced the National bibliography book in 1998 and now is working on the national bibliography since 1872, which was the year when printing existed in Yemen for the first time, and until year 2000. Hence forward, there will be a new publication of the following yeas two years per book.
