SANA'A-The blast that occurred Wednesday, July 21st in Hababa town, Thula district, claimed 18 lives. A quantity of gunpowder stored at the bottom of a building of six flats, was ignited by an electrical short. It was reported that the gunpowder was to be used in construction works.
The explosion was so terrible that it shattered the building, caused damage to adjacent ones, and shook the ground.
“This blast should be pondered over” as a message to responsible authorities. Storerooms, particularly in cities, packed with inflammable materials such as iod, toxic chemicals, and pesticides should be rigorously supervised.
