BY H.E. DR. KHALED ELKOMY
AMBASSADOR OF EGYPT TO YEMEN
Throughout the last couple of weeks, I have not been happy with attempts of some elements, mainly in the press, to spoil the fraternal relationship between Egypt and Yemen.
Those who try to spoil the eternal and special relationship that links Cairo with Sanaa will achieve nothing but mere failure.
To those who try to fish in troubled waters, I would like to make it crystal clear that they should stay away from the Egyptian – Yemeni bond. There have never been troubled waters between Egypt and Yemen and there will never be.
What ties Egypt and Yemen together is the blood of martyrs, soldiers and officers who fought together, side by side in the same ditch in 1962, jotting down with immortal letters the perpetual brotherly relationship they have, which is far above any psychological complexes and political problems.
To those who enjoy to plot, I say loudly, be careful, the relationship between Egypt and Yemen are far from being touched, supported by an inexhaustible treasure of kinship and blood relations. Furthermore, even a blind eye can see the innate love and natural and mutual acceptance between the people in the two countries, created by God. Can anyone change what God has already created?
That is why we emphasize once more, to those who are trying to tamper with the Egyptian-Yemeni relationship, dont even think of it!
Nevertheless, this was also affirmatively settled by President Mubarak when he said that President Ali Abdullah Saleh is a personal friend of mine. Mr. Mubarak also stated that the same elements are trying to damage the (Egypt-Yemen) relations, and create a state of tension are doing so for their own personal interests.
President Husni Mubarak has confirmed, through his prolonged interview with the Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA) on April 18th that Yemeni President Saleh was very broad-minded about the plots and trials to slander Egypt and Yemen.
Likewise, everyone who watched the televised interview of President Saleh with a prominent Arabic satellite channel on Friday April 5th noticed how he talked about his full appreciation to the proud Egyptian people who are not for sale. That is a reciprocal feeling of the Egyptian people, who keep the same feeling of love and full admiration to the Yemeni president.
Therefore, everyone should notice that the Cairo-Sanaa road is a path of fraternity and friendship, and all those troubling people, wherever they are, should halt from what they are trying to do. They should look for other things to do and keep away from Egypt-Yemen relations.
