Carnival on the creativity of the handicapped [Archives:2004/741/Last Page]

Saturday, 22 May 2004- President Saleh inaugurated today the 10-day carnival being held at Sabean Park in Sana'a, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism within the framework of the ongoing activities to mark “Sana'a, the Arab Cultural Capital, 2004”.
The carnival aims to show the innovations and creativity of the deaf, mute and handicapped. It also reflects their high spirits, will, and strong determination to overcome and to conquer their disabilities, and to highlight their ability to merge and contribute to society and to the development of their country in the light of the care and attention they have been receiving.
The carnival shows also the efforts being exerted to care for and to integrate the handicapped and those of need of special care, and to benefit from their abilities through the educational, training and integration programs that have been provided. It also aims to put in place cultural, artistic and informational programs that will contribute to highlighting the issue of the handicapped.
The carnival consists of several creative and artistic activities by some of the handicapped and of handicraft exhibitions, organized by deaf, mute and handicapped associations from various governorates of the Republic.
A handicraft products exhibition was held, which reflected the abilities and creativity of the handicapped and those in need of special care to overcome their disabilities.
In addition, the carnival will include several cultural seminars, plays and other cultural activities depicting the suffering of the handicapped in their country.
