Child Development Project Signed [Archives:2000/15/Local News]
Minister of Planning and Development Ahmed Mohammed Sofan, and World Bank Vice President for the Middle East North Africa Kemal Dervis, on April 3, 2000 signed a credit agreement of $ 28.9 million (21.1million SDR) for a Child Development Project. The credit, which was approved by the Bank’s Board on March 21, was signed in the presence of president Ali Abdullah Saleh, and World Bank President James Wolfensohn.
The Bank’s most comprehensive partnership project with UNICEF, the initiative will assist the government of Yemen in the implementation of a coordinated area based program for improving the health and nutritional status of children under five, improve the education status of girls in primary schools in districts that are currently under-served in the area of education, and pilot community based Early Childhood Development models.
