A Yemeni government official has denied reports that a joint Yemeni-American-British military maneuver will take place during the coming few months in Hadhramout.
However, the US newspaper Washington Times confirmed these reports, quoting diplomatic resources.
The paper reported that a Yemeni-American-British military exercise will take place soon in Hadhramout, where al Qaeda elements are suspected to hide.
It suggested the maneuver will last for three months, and that a group of 20 US military coordinators and experts have been already dispatched to Yemen to prepare for this exercise.
It said 30 more US military experts will be sent to Yemen by the end of this month to join the previous team.
The paper added that US Vice-President Dick Cheney discussed this issue of the military maneuver with President Ali Abdulla Saleh during his short visit to Sana’a Airport on March 15.
This exercise is geared to help Yemeni military personnel to crack down on terrorists in the country.
