Cultural urban heritage symposium discussed [Archives:2002/18/Local News]

Developing public awareness towards the preservation of cultural heritage was the main focus of the symposium held last week at the Press Center in Sanaa.
Participants in their working papers focused on the strategy of preserving the program of urban heritage and the vital leading role played by the media to pack up and find immediate solutions to the cultural heritage before it falls into a state of decay.
The symposium aimed to familiarize the public with the current situation of urban heritage.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Vice Chairman, Ali Oshaish outlined the goals and components of this programs.
The Culture Minister, Abdulwahab Arowhani delivered a speech centering on the leading role played by media to disseminate awareness among people.
The Chairman of the program, Deekter Momtekhar focused in his speech on the main tasks performed by the program, future plans, disseminating awareness, and conducting field surveys with view of preserving the cultural urban heritage and upgrading it as a vital economic resource.
This program is an outcome of the bilateral cooperation between Yemen and the Kingdom of Holland. It is established to support governmental and non-governmental organizations in the field of preserving the cultural centers and historical sites.
The program addresses policies that would help Yemen revitalize all its historic cities, and how the cultural heritage can co-exist with the development of the cities and adaptation to the requirements of modern life.
The symposium was sponsored by the Minister of Information, Hussein Dhaif Allah, and the Kingdom of Holland.
The question of preserving the cultural heritage of Yemen has invited the interest of all people interested in culture and preservation of history.
Yemen is bestowed with a unique culture that could be a very good source of income if it is taken care of properly.
