Al-Bayan newspaper quoted data from a statistical report on the debts of twelve Arab states published in late April 2005. The total for all twelve countries comes to $237 billion, broken down as follows: Iraq, $130 billion; Egypt, $25 billion; Algeria, $21 billion; Morocco, $14 billion; Lebanon, $13 billion; Tunisia, $10 billion; Jordan, $6 billion; Oman, $5.8 billion; Sudan, $5.8 billion; Syria, $5.4 billion; and Yemen, $3 billion.
