Dialogue Through Space [Archives:1998/08/Local News]
On two separate occasions, the Yemen-American Language Institute (YALI), the United State Information Service (USIS) and the US Embassy in Sanaa have hosted dialogue sessions on two different topics. Live TV dialogue was held through American satellite network, Worldnet.
On Tuesday, February 17th, the topic of intellectual property rights was discussed. Hosting the sessions, was Mr. Peter Fowler, the Attorney-Advisor in the Office of Legislative and International Affairs within the Patent and Trade Mark Office of the US Department of Commerce.
The second dialogue session was held on Wednesday, February 18th at the same venue. This time, the most pressing issue of biological and chemical warfare was the topic discussed by the participants. The guest speaker was Mr. Jonathan Tucker, the Director of Chemical and Biological Weapons in the US. The US Ambassador to Sanaa, Ms. Barbara Bodine attended the session to answer questions by the present representatives of the media and other political party members and government officials.
The lively debates were directly translated into Arabic.
