A joint meeting by officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Yemeni Football Association, on one side, and the German Embassy, on the other, was held in Sanaa last week. Such meetings have become quite common, further enhancing German support to the youth and sports sector in Yemen.
Several issues were discussed, especially those concerned with training courses funded by the Germans according to a protocol signed by the two countries.
A number of recommendations and plans were made during the meeting:
1- organizing a football training course as a follow-up of the course held in 1997, in which a football German instructor took part; and
2- organizing two training courses, one for first-division football coaches and the other for coaches in remote governorates.
The Yemeni side has expressed its desire that a German coach would train the Yemeni National Football Team for two or three years.
Germany provides a lot of support in this sector, which is manifested in the form of training courses and scholarships in various sports.
British Parachutists in Yemen’s Revolution Celebrations
To further cement the friendly Yemeni-British ties, a 10-member British team of parachutists and hang-glider pilots has arrived in the country last week. It was invited by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Yemeni Olympic Committee and the Yemen Parachutists Association.
Mr. Mohammed Al-Mqaleh will coordinate performances of the Yemeni and British parachutists in Sanaa, Taiz, Aden, Mahweet, Ibb, Hajja, and Manakha. The Britons are expected to stay in Yemen for three weeks.
