The Yemeni Authorities have recently licensed 240 Egyptian fishing ships to fish in the Yemeni regional water following the recording of many cases of illegal fishing by a number of Egyptian fishing ships. Many cases of trespassing the Yemeni water by Egyptian non-governmental ships have been recorded in the recent years and some of these ships have been captured . This decision by the Yemeni government follows an Egyptian request to allow the Egyptian fishing ships to fish in the Yemeni regional water as a part of brotherly relationships between the two countries.
It is worth mentioning that, about 2600 km of the Yemeni water is prone to illegal activities by Egyptian, Chinese, Indonesian and other fishing companies. Unfortunately, the Yemen Navy does not move a finger to bring about an end to such illegal practices except some few cases when such events are done near the sea shores. Otherwise, trespassers are free to play havoc with the marine life.
