First technological information city in Yemen [Archives:2002/26/Local News]

The ministry of communication held on Wednesday a symposium under the theme The technological city for communication and information, aims and strategies. The event took place at headquarters of the technological city for communication and information. The workshop included a number of researches and visions, all of which are aimed at giving information on this city, goals, tasks and its technological contributions.
In his address, the minister of communication, engineer Abdul AL-Malek Suliaman AL-Mulemee said that the city had several objectives. He added that Yemen is part of this world and flow of information and speedy development in technology make it difficult for anyone to fully keep pace with all changeables in this field. The idea of building this city was meant that it would be a center of radiation and to provide youth and researchers interested in information and new development in this field. The minister said further that through this city there would be efforts to enhance technology in Yemen.
Brains are the most important wealth of people and we find it imperative to remind that this wealth could be taken care of to maintain their growth, this could not be done but through mastering technology. Regarding mastering technology, at least for the time being, is meant the process of transferring technology.
Regarding this new project represented by this technological city, it will form a general strategy for comprehensive development of sector of technology and communication. It also aims at grouping elements of research, training and industry within one complex securing the benefit of these elements integrity in building small and medium companies for producing information and electronic software connected with communication sector by relying on local cadre and providing job opportunities for those holding high degrees in this field.
In reply to a question by the Yemen Times on the period this project will take to be ready and if there are plans for building similar cities in other governorates, the minister said it needed enough to tangibly see results of this project in the capital, and we intend to build a similar project in Aden soon. At this time there is no plan for building such cities in other governorates.
