A three-day International Woman's Conference titled “Woman is crucial partner in development” winds up Monday. Marking the Woman's International Day in Yemen was first celebrated in 1997 and this time is being organized by Woman National Committee (WNC) and held at the Officers Club on Saturday 8 March on occasion of International Woman's Day.
It is attended by more than 500 participants from Yemen's governorates representing a number of governmental and non-governmental institutions and local and international organizations as well as representatives for donor agencies and local and foreign media.
Mr. Abdualkader Bajamal, Prime Minister, and Dr. Waheeba Fare'e, Minister of Human Rights, were among the host attendance.
The main goals of the conference are:
-Evaluating and revising the activities of WNC since the first conference in 1997 until now.
-Analysis the Yemeni women situation.
-Getting acquainted with dimensions and size of poverty among Yemeni women and possible national effort interference.
-Personifying the problem of woman political participation inviting to take the accurate procedures to increase her representation in different local and national institutions on various levels.
-Approving a National strategic project for gender and put executive plans to narrow the development gap between men and women in education, health, work and decision-making positions.
-Get acquainted with laws related to woman and seeing their implementation into reality.
-Enhancing the partnership among local, regional and international partners.
Rashida al-Hamadani, the chairperson of the WNC, in her welcoming speech has reviewed the activities of the WNC through the previous years in supporting woman issues and displaying woman positive and marginalized roles that supposed to play in future.
“We have to confess that to raise the Yemeni woman status and enable her to get her rights fairly requires all society energy and putting a good strategy and plans aimed at realising a balanced image of woman as a human that has rights Islam and constitution guarantee for her” she said further.
