The French Center for Archeology and Social Sciences (CEFAS) in Sana'a held a discussion titled “From charity to social protection: free access to health in Yemen, the case of Hadramout” on Wednesday Oct 13, 2004. The discussion was attended by Blandine Destremeau, from the National Center for Researches and Studies in Paris, and Thabet Baggash, OXFAM, who delivered their presentations in front of a number of the people that are interested in such events.
The discussion concentrated on the role of the charitable societies in the medical protection in Yemen throughout presenting the case of Hadramout. It aimed to raise awareness among the audience about the significance of involving the whole society in improving the social integration.
Both lecturers expressed how people in Hadramout are a model of Yemeni society, how they dealt with the different medical and health issues and the various efforts of individual charitable initiatives, the local societies and the international organizations in order to improve the health conditions.
The audience got more familiar with how the medical staff has improved through the different training courses organized by OXFAM and other organizations.
