Globalization and gender discussed [Archives:2003/638/Local News]

Organized by the Supreme Council for Woman Affairs and Center of Arab Woman for Training and Research (CAWTAR) along with United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) a three-day workshop entitled “Globalization, gender and fighting poverty” was held on 25-27 May.
The workshop mainly aimed at introducing and enriching CAWTAR's report “Globalization and Gender: Economic Participation of Arab women” and studying the Yemeni woman situation as well. In addition, it aimed to study policies, ways and means to improve the Yemeni woman abilities and support her economic role and its effect on the family and society.
The workshop, moreover, was intended at formulating collective programs between “CAWTAR” center and the Yemeni associations interested in “Training, promoting abilities and supporting the productive and development loan projects to fight poverty.”
Mr. Abdulkareem al-Arhabi, Labor and Social Affairs Minister, Ms. Raheeda al-Hamadani, the head of Woman of National Committee, Sokaina Borowi, CAWTAR Manager, Ms. Betna Mass, the residential representative of UNFPA were the distinguished guests among the attendance that represented international and local and governmental and non-governmental organizations.
A number of studies and practical projects related to the supporting women and poverty alleviation were displayed in the six sessions held during the workshop.
