Government refuses opening ballot centers for Yemenis abroad [Archives:2006/974/Local News]

SANA'A, Aug 20 ) The Supreme Council for Elections and Referendum (SCER) are refusing to open ballots centers in countries where many Yemeni expatriates live, according to local media.

The SCER decided not to open voting centers in other countries because they state there are fewer than 500 Yemenis registered in any given country.

The SCER's refusal is attributed to its fear that these expatriates will vote for Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) candidate, said the same source. Upon the intelligence reports which foresaw expatriates to vote against General People's Congress (GPC) candidate President Saleh.
