In a meeting last week with Ageel Al-Attas, head of the Hadramout Teachers Syndicate, Governor Abdulgader Ali Hilal convinced teachers to cancel a planned sit-in in front of the government complex in Al-Mukalla.

The sit-in was intended to protest oppressions against teachers across the governorate, including replacing and firing some teachers, preventing them from signing the attendance list and threats and interrogation by security forces.

Al-Attas said the governor pledged to stop all violations against teachers – meant to break the strike – by security forces, education offices and general district managers. “If we don't see any action on the ground, then we'll decide what should be done,” he added.
