Hodeidah hosts First International Conference on English Language Teaching [Archives:2002/14/Local News]

Hodeidah – Under the patronage of H.E. the PM Dr, Abulkader Bajammal, the first International Conference on English Language Teaching was started Saturday.
The four-day conference will continue to April 2 at Hodeidah University.
To open the conference, Chairman . Prof. Qassim Mohammed Barihe, of Hodeidah University, spoke of efforts made to make the event a success.
This is the first conference being held in the Arab world where 44 researches have been presented to the jury form Yemeni universities. Among these, 20 researches have been accepted.
Organizers noted the significance of holding such conferences and making use of its outcomes.
Lectures and professors from multi-nationalities including the USA, Britain, Germany, India and Yemen participated at the conference, said conference secretary, Prof. T. Balasubramaniam, Head of English.
Higher Education Minister and Scientific Research Yahya Ashoabi stressed the need to apply the conferences recommendations and send them to other universities of the Arab world.
There is a short-fall of English qualified cadre and we will do our best to reach self-sufficient English qualified cadres capable of producing much in this vital field, Ashoabi said.
He called for the principle of specialization at different colleges and universities.
In response to whether Hodeidah University will hold such conferences next year, Yahya Ashoabi said the University is going to host international conferences in the field of Sea Sciences and on the historical city of Zabeed.
