The workshop was attended by a number of state officials, donors and other people to discuss the final report of the second phase of developing human resources project. Minister of Electricity and Water Ali Hamid Sharaf gave the opening speech in which he said that the meeting was an excellent opportunity for gathering and exchanging various ideas aimed at reaching necessary consensus for pushing forward the process of improving this sector. He made it clear that due to addressing improvements to this vital sector, the most serious difficulties and negative conditions of the past had been overcome.
However, he said that there was still a long distance to go before attaining the targeted objectives. He highlighted the importance of financial, as well as technical assistance in the improvement of the sector and called upon all concerned parties to cooperate in order to keep the wheel of progress rolling.
The importance of this project, especially in its third phase springs from its relationship with human resources, as well as water resources.
On his part, Dr. Helmut Grosskreutz of GTZ delivered a speech in which he highlighted the Yemeni-German cooperation in the field of water and sanitation sector over the last twenty years. At the same time he expressed satisfaction of the German’ side over the achievements realized in the water and sanitation sector. He said that the German government had allocated DM 3 million for the training program beginning this year.
The discussion came out with a number of relevant recommendations.
