In a pictorial lecture, 900 rare tree species & plants in Socotra [Archives:2003/655/Business & Economy]

The Council for Tourist Promotion has recently displayed a pictorial lecture on the biodiversity the island of Socotra is characterized by. The island contains more than 900 species of rare trees and plants among which 300 species never found in other parts of the world.
The lecture has made it clear that the people of Socotra have their own social traditions and habits associated with the mode of their life and bio-environment, reflecting the prevalent economic activities in the island.
The Yemeni government has built many projects in Socotra having relationship with serving the people there and the tourists. Such services as communications, hotels and restaurants in addition to services directed related to tourists. Among the facilities the government has built in the Indian Ocean-located Island are the Socotra International Airport and a headland for receiving tourist and mercantile ships.
The lecture has reviewed the distinguished services offered to tourists such as offering tents, organizing diving programs and tourist trips in the islands composing the Socotra archipelago, including the viewing o dolphins and the special marine life there. The pictorial show accompanying the lecture also included selected landscapes from Socotra and aspects of the population life and the extent of their adhering to their customs of hospitality offered to the guest and providing security and comfort of for tourists visiting the island.
The UNESCO had already adopted it official considering of Socotra among the rare world wildlife sanctuaries due to its biodiversity.
