The insurance company of Yemenia will probably pay for damage caused by the fire. According to initial estimates, more than US$ 10 million was the damage caused by the fire that engulfed the 10-story Yemenia building last Monday. The building caught fire at 3:30 pm as a result of an electrical short circuit as officially stated.
Despite some reports published in several opposition newspapers saying that the fire may not have been caused by an accident, no proof whatsoever was available to justify those claims.
The fire broke out on the sixth floor then spread to the other upper floors owing to the late arrival of the fire-brigade and the inefficiency of the firefighters and the helicopter. This caused the fire to engulf the two lower floors of the building as well.
