Jabal Al-Tair volcano threatens inhabitants of Red sea Islands [Archives:2007/1092/Local News]

SANA'A, Oct. 6 – A volcano that erupted on Jabal Al Tair, a tiny island on the Red Sea, has caused fears among the people of Kamran Island, about 6 kilometres off Al-Salif coast at Al-Hodida This came after a light earthquake on Friday hit Saba Island, which is part of a group of islands on the Red Sea known as “the Seven Sisters”, about 40 km from Kamaran island.

Kamaran is Yemen 's biggest island on the Red Sea , and its population is estimated at 3,000 inhabitants.

General-director of Kamaran district said fishermen on the island could feel the tremor, which geologists linked to the volcano on Jabal Al-Tair Island.

Ismael Al-Janad director of the Ministry of Oil geological Survey Authority said to Yemen Times: “The tremor that occurred on Saba Island is linked to the current volcano on the Red Sea “”.
