Japan Grants Aid to Ibb City [Archives:2001/01/Local News]

The Government of Japan has decided to extend a grant aid amounting up to USD 89,181, approximately fifteen million Yemeni Riyals, to Ibb Cleaning Fund under the scheme called the “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects”. This grant is to cover the costs for the construction of kiosks in the central market in order to improve sanitary condition and the image of the city center so as to prevent people from worse sanitary condition and to look more beautiful. Part of the grant will also be used to purchase a number of motorcycles to support its better management of Solid Waste Project and the good cleanliness efforts that aim at making Ibb City more attractive. Both sides of this project will highly contribute to the environmental and sanitation situations in Ibb City. The Government of Japan has decided to extend the grant due to good management of the Ibb Cleaning Fund and also high awareness of people in Ibb. An agreement to this effect was signed December 25 2001 in Sana’a Deputy Governor of Bib Mr. Abdul Wahid Salah and Mr. Masamitsu Oki, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen.
At the same time, Japan has decided to extend a grant aid amounting up to USD 29,995 approximately five million Yemeni Riyals, to Parental Council in Ibb under the scheme called the “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects”. Parental Council constructed new facility to expand its activity to accept more children who live in the streets with bad living condition and no basic education.
This grant is to cover a part of the costs of the procurement of necessary furniture to meet urgent needs to save children providing favorable conditions that make them feel safer, happier and comfortable. The Government of Japan has decided to extend this grant to Parental Council for its good management, long, and strenuous efforts to support street children. An agreement to this effect was signed December 25 2001 in Sana’a by Mr. Abdul Kareem Moneer, Chief of the Parental Council in Ibb, and Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen.
It is worth mentioning that the above-mentioned scheme of Japan’s Grant Assistance aims at supporting small-scale community-based projects in basic human need fields, such as primary health care, basic education and public welfare in developing countries, in addition to other social developmental fields.
