Japanese assistance for agriculture in Yemen [Archives:2005/823/Local News]

'Notes concerning a new Japanese Grant for the Increase of Food Production in Yemen amounting to 300,000,000 yen (US$ 3 million) were signed and exchanged on March 8th 2005 at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation by Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Sofan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and Mr. Yuichi Ishii, Ambassador of Japan to Yemen,' a press release delivered on March 9th by the Japanese Embassy declared.

The grant will be used for the purchase of agricultural machineries and equipments to help, in particular, under-privileged farmers improve their living standard, and therefore contribute to developing agriculture, sector in Yemen efficiently.

It is worth mentioning that Japan has extended to Yemen under this grant more than ten billion yen (US$ 100 million) since this program started in 1979.
