Japan’s ambassador attends delivery of medical equipment ceremony [Archives:2003/673/Local News]
Mr. Yuichi Ishii, Ambassador of Japan to Sana'a, on September 28 attended the delivery ceremony that took place at Abs Health Center in Hajjah Governorate on the occasion of delivering some medical equipment to the center under the Japanese scheme called ''General Grant Aid for Grassroots Projects''. The Grant amounting up to USD 68,536, which was agreed between the Embassy of Japan and the Center on February 9, 2003, was used to procure some medical required by TB and Malaria Units in Abs Health Center such as X-ray machine, Ultra-sound machine, microscopes and other laboratory equipment to enable the center reduce morbidity and mortality rates of tuberculosis and malaria among the 200,000 inhabitants of Abs District. The above mentioned Japanese scheme aims at supporting small-scale community based projects in basic human needs field, such as primary health care, basic education and public welfare in developing countries. In the last Japanese fiscal year (April, 2002-March, 2003), the Embassy of Japan extended grants under the scheme, which amount up to USD 468,398 to implement 8 small-scale projects in Sa'adah, Amran, Maharah, Sana'a, Hajjah, Dhamar and Hodaidah Governorates. The project at Abs Health Center is one of those eight projects.
