JMP: GPC’s new allies are yesterday’s terrorists [Archives:2006/982/Local News]
SANA'A, Sept. 17 ) The Joint-Meeting Parties are demanding an independent investigation into the terrorist attacks of Safer and Al-Dhabah which took place last Friday and they held the authorities responsible for the attacks describing the political utilization of the incident as irresponsible.
Abdulwahab Al-Anisi, Assistant General Secretary of Islah, criticized the General People's Congress accusation that the JMP stands behind the attacks, indicating the GPC has suddenly became security forces and judicial authorities through the accusation even before any investigation takes place.
Al-Anisi said the behavior of the GPC involves risky tactics such as treating allies of the past (Al-Islah Party) as enemies today, or worse, calling them terrorists while in the past they were political partners. He added that the GPC has new allies today whom he used to call terrorists recently.
And it might even indicate that the GPC has used its new allies in plotting the Safer and Al-Dhabah attacks to make the public wary of regime change.
The point was reinforced by President Saleh's remarks on Al-Jazeera describing a wanted terrorist in Egypt who declared elections were forbidden in Islam and people should vote for President Saleh because he's a representation of moderate Islam while Islah party members were extremists.
The JMP has played down Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmar's remarks that he will support President Saleh, indicating it was a personal opinion following pleas by the GPC for such a stance from Sheikh Al-Ahmar. The JMP has also indicated that authorities made arrangements to make Bin Shamlan's campaign in Sa'ada fail after the Saleh campaign had limited success, indicating the JMP has not yet cancelled the Sa'ada rally.
The General Secretary of Yemen Socialist Party, Dr. Yassin No'man, said the behavior of the GPC in attaching Friday's terrorist attacks to the JMP is an old habit the GPC practices when it reaches a political dilemma, he also criticized the GPC's harsh campaign filled with personal attacks against their presidential candidate for competing against Saleh, stressing the agreed importance of practicing the principles agreement.
Al-Atwani, General Secretary of Unionist Nasserite party said the GPC is now bankrupt of ideas as it has no more cards to use against the JMP except accusing them of terrorism. Indicating the JMP is against the additional polling stations proposed by the SCER, calling on the SCER to avoid being selective on which laws to execute and which to ignore.
