Journalists still harassed [Archives:2002/31/Local News]

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS) issued a press release last Thursday, condemning the attack on journalist Mahboob Abdulaziz of 14 October newspaper by a security official from the Urban Planning Office in Aden. The press release called for the investigation of the attack and the punishment of those behind it. Meanwhile, the YJS called upon the governor of Ibb to interfere to release the father of the journalist who was taken as a hostage without any legal cause by the security bodies in Ibb. The kidnapping was to pressurize the journalist to hand himself over to the authorities. In the conclusion of its statement, the YJS considered detaining the journalists father as an illegal act that should be punished by the law.
