Libyan office in Yemen celebrates AU anniversary [Archives:2003/667/Local News]

Sanaa, September 9 – The Libyan Arab Brotherhood Office in Sanaa celebrated Libyan Independence Day in a reception held on the 8th of September at the Taj Sheba Hotel. The event, which was attended by many diplomats, intellects, media people, and prominent personalities, marked the 34th Libya Revolution anniversary which dates to the first of September 1969.
The event was also an occasion to mark the fourth anniversary of the foundation of the African Union (AU), which Libya and its leader Muammar Al-Qadhafi had a key role in accomplishing.
On 9.9.1999, the Heads of State and Government of the Organization of AU issued a Declaration (the Sirte Declaration) calling for the establishment of the AU, with a view, inter alia, to accelerating the process of integration in the continent to enable it play its rightful role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and political problems compounded as they are by certain negative aspects of globalization.
