Lunch for Chevening Scholarships Winners [Archives:2001/26/Local News]

“Last Wednesday, June 20 the UK Ambassador to Sana’a Her Excellency Francis Guy hosted a lunch party in honor of Chevening candidates who have been successfully qualified for scholarships for the year 2001-02. A number of outstanding former Chevening graduates attended the party. the UK Foreign Commonwealth Office, FCO, sponsors and funds the Chevening Scholarship Program through its Embassies around the world. The program provides opportunities to the qualified students/scholars to pursue their higher education in the British universities, with emphasis on fields related to the economic and political development as well as reform programs taking place in the candidate’s countries. The UK Ambassador highly noted the effective role the Chevening Scheme has played in promoting cultural and educational ties between the two friendly countries.
Chevening Scholarship Scheme is an annual program announced in October and November of each year. 100 applicants competed for the scholarships this year among which the following seven were found qualified:
1- Jamal Nasher, Health Ministry.
2- Nadiah Abdulaziz al-Saqqaf, Yemen Times.
3- Dr. Mohammed al-Makrami, Psychic Hospital.
4- Nadwah al-Dawsari, UNDP
5- Akram al-Hindi, TV and radio
6- Reem Mujber, Medical Faculty, Aden University.
7- Najwa al-Seri, Foreign Ministry.
Winners were introduced to the previous students studying in the British universities. Winners are expected to travel in coming August.
