It is very frustrating to realize that although Yemen is rated as one the least developed countries in the world, it is one of the richest countries in the region resource-wise. Despite all of the country's potential, Yemenis live in very miserable conditions and Yemen is rated 133rd among 162 countries assessed by the Human Development Index for year 2001.

This means that it is not enough to have resources, it is more important is to know how to manage them.

Good management includes putting the right person in the right place, it includes accountability and responsibility, the ability to make decisions and the creativity to break from routine.

When businesses become chaotic, and there is no management strategy, the business is failing. When routine is the norm and creativity absent, the business is going down. And when people become careless and irresponsible about their work, business is definitely doomed.

Whether you are running a country, a business, a project or even a home, the reasons behind success essentially remain the same. Many people say that depressing circumstances put us down and inevitably make us fail. However, the truth is that people do not fail, businesses do. This statement has been proved throughout history by the stories of great people who have made a change. Prophet Mohammed (mpbh) is an example of being brought up in a chaotic and cruel environment and yet (in just 23 years) he achieved drastic changes not only in his town, but across the world.

It is amazing how much one can achieve by managing things well. It is only a matter of using human and material resources in the best way. One can start at any level. All one needs to do, is to have a vision, then to set out clear time objectives and identify the available resources. This process should be carried out every time assessing the results of the previous phase and making changes until the vision is achieved.

It's never too late to rethink the way we live our lives and do our work. Learning how to manage better will not only affect our spheres but has a ripple effect that continues beyond imagination. Whoever you are and whatever you are doing, you should start today, as for me, I am starting right away.
