Its expected that all the projects financed and implemented by the Social Fund for Development (SFD) will generate five million temporary jobs as well as 14,000 permanent positions. The SFD was establish to contain the negative consequences of the economic reform program Yemen implemented mid-1995.
Funding for the SFD comes from the government, the World Bank, donor countries and other Arab funds.
The Social Fund for Development is currently implementing a range of infrastructure projects such as micro-finance support credit and the building of charitable organizations. The funding for this totals US$ 143,314 for the 2,128 projects.
The total cost for active projects over last four years in Aden, Abyan, Lahaj and Dhali is US$ 6 million.
According to an SFD bulletin 1,072 education projects will be implemented in the governorates costing US$ 74,995,000.
The water supply sector has 416 projects at the cost of US$ 24,735,000 of which US$ 13,609,000 has already been distributed.
The health sector has been given US$ 14,174,000 for 141 projects.
Environment projects costs have totaled US$ 5.6 million of which 3.2 million has been distributed.
Cultural heritage has been allotted US$ 2.5 million.
The road building sector has been given US$ 7,134,000 for 21 road projects.
In the micro-finance program, the SFD has granted loans for 32 projects totaling US$ 3.7 million of which 2.3 million has been distributed. Loans for underprivileged groups have amounted to US$ 7 million of which USD 2.9 has been distributed. The SFD is also financing 71 training projects.
